The Last - and Best - Après Party of the Season
Posted by Rollinglobe Crew on April 05, 2012
It’s April. Spring has sprung, and lesser mountains have already closed up shop.
But not Aspen Highlands.
The locals’ favorite mountain is going strong until April 22… and then it’s gonna go even stronger.
If you don’t know about the Highlands Closing Day party, you don’t know what a true après party is.
Think of it as the Super Bowl of on-mountain ragers… the most anticipated event of the year and a bittersweet goodbye to another season.
Expect champagne-fueled shenanigans at Cloud 9 – the mid-mountain, Alpine bistro serving up unrivaled views from its outdoor deck – and costumed contestants gracefully (or not so gracefully) gliding across the crisp blue water before face-planting into the cold abyss during the annual pond-skimming competition.
To get the most out of the celebration, hike up to the Highlands summit for one final look at the majestic Maroon Bells. You’ll be greeted by fellow revelers toasting a view that won’t be seen again until next season.
And as you make your way down to the base, listen for a faint womp womp womp growing louder as you approach.
No, they’re not blowing up dynamite. It’s the bumping bass from DJs positioned on the sprawling deck outside of Highlands’ base lodge. You may not be able to see the DJs at first – they’ll probably be surrounded by a huge crowd with shot skis and gaper gear in tow – but you’ll hear them alright… all night long in fact.
To call this the best après in Aspen just wouldn’t be doing it justice. This could be the best après ski party ever.
[Editor's Note: Aspen Ski Co. has announced that Aspen Highlands will close Sunday, April 15, one week prior scheduled closing.]
