Mountains and music go together like powder and pistes… Everything’s just better when the two get together.
So you’re in luck this March and April, when you can take your pick of electronica, hip-hop, and dubstep performances in the Vail Valley, fill up on positive vibrations from former Bob Marley band members at two different resorts, OR get in touch with your 90s-loving alternative side at an eco-village that’s hosting a little band called Guster.
No doubt there’s one serious lineup of mountain music festivals coming to the Rockies this spring…
…here’s your guide to the best of ’em.
March 2-4 - SnowBall Music Festival @ Vail Valley, CO
SnowBall, the first festival of its kind to combine electronica and dubstep with the legendary Vail Valley in all its extreme winter glory, is coming back for its second year. Outside of some serious talent on its lineup, including Rusko, Snoop Dogg, and Ghostland Observatory, the great thing about SnowBall is the spirit of giving back (aka the SnowBall Effect) that the festival has fostered among its growing fan base. The venue is located at Nottingham Park in Avon, Colo., about 20 minutes west of Vail Ski Resort along Interstate 70. While it was pretty rad watching the Flaming Lips last year as snow engulfed the entire stage, the all-outdoor venue got a little muddy … so bring your boots and some warm waterproof clothes.
Headliners: Rusko, Snoop Dogg, Bassnectar, Big Boi, The Kooks, Ghostland Observatory
Cost: 3-Day Festival Passes start at $159.50 (lodging and lift tickets not included)
March 16-25 - Bud Light Spring Jam @ Aspen/Snowmass, CO
The 12th Annual Bud Light Spring Jam will bring two weekends of Big Air competitions, free concerts, and Terrain Park Boot Camp to Aspen/Snowmass. The festivities kick off Friday, March 16 at 8 p.m. with the Core Party concert in downtown Aspen. They continue the next day at the 13th Annual Kick Aspen Big Air, where skiers and snowboarders compete under the lights at the base of Aspen Mountain.
Wanna get in on the action yourself? A beginner terrain park will be set up at Snowmass on Saturday and Sunday where coaches will teach beginners how to safely slide a rail, hit a box, and throw tricks. Be sure to make your way to Snowmass Village on Sunday, March 18 (free shuttles depart regularly from downtown Aspen) where the Bud Light Hi-Fi concert featuring the Wailers begins at 4 p.m.
Headliners: The Wailers
Cost: FREE
March 17-18 - FestEVOL Winter Concert @ Crested Butte, CO
This is laid-back mountain lifestyle at its best with alternative tunes from the Barenaked Ladies and Guster in Colorado’s Last Great Ski Town. In its second year, the FestEVOL Concert series kicks off at Crested Butte on March 17 and 18 before heading east for stops at Okemo in Vermont on March 24 and 25 and Mount Sunapee in New Hampshire on March 31 and April 1. The entire series is sponsored by your favorite natural foods brand, EVOL Foods, so rest assured there will be plenty of munchies to go around at the sustainably focused "eco-village."
Headliners: Barenaked Ladies, Guster, Big Head Todd and the Monsters
Cost: Lodging + Lift + Concert packages start at $112 per person, per night
March 17- April 15 - Spring Fever @ Breckenridge, CO
Kick off a month of festivities with a town-wide St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the OG of mountain party towns, Breckenridge, Colo. In addition to free concerts on Saturday and Sunday afternoons on a specially-constructed stage at the base of Peak 8 (lineup to be announced soon), enjoy 5 ’til 5 Happy Hour at the Terrain Park every Thursday, a "Then & Now" halfpipe competition showcasing snowboarding's past and future, and the Breck Ascent Series uphill races, a series of hill-climb events that scale Breckenridge’s four peaks.
Don’t miss the 6th Annual Spring Beer Festival (April 14), which will be offering unlimited samples from local and national brewers (tasting mugs will be available for purchase at around $30). Also be sure to take advantage of the $18.59 dining specials throughout the month of April at restaurants like Relish, Kenosha Steakhouse, and Mi Casa.
Get in on the action with this lodging deal from the Village at Breckenridge starting at $119 per night.
Headliners: Julian Marley, Soul Rebels Brass Band, Leftover Salmon, Donavon Frankenreiter, Toots & the Maytals, Rusted Root

March 23 - April 1 - Spring Grüv + Red Bull Schlittentag @ Park City, UT
The 5th Annual Spring Grüv brings ten days of wild events and free concerts to three Park City resorts: the Canyons, Park City Mountain Resort, and Deer Valley. Performances by John Brown’s Body, Little Feat, and Martin Sexton are combined with the Red Bull Schlittentag (that’s German for “sledding day”), where daredevils soar down a hill – and over the requisite jump – on homemade sleds. Teams of three compete at the Canyons Resort, where one team member acts as the pilot and the two others push their D.I.Y. transportation to sweet victory. Registration runs from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. Sledding begins at 12 p.m.
Also not to be missed is the 4th Annual Wasatch Backside Lifty Invitational, which pits local lift crews from all three resorts against one another in a series of hilarious competitions.
Celebrate. Compete. Watch. Ski. Ride. Grüv.
Headliners: John Brown’s Body, Little Feat, and Martin Sexton and his Fall Like Rain Tour
