Snowbombing: Ibiza in the Snow
Posted by Angela Almeida on March 21, 2012
The idea of a week-long music festival graced with the genius of Dizzee Rascal, Example, and The Vaccines is startling. Now, add many more insane bands and DJs dropping beats 2,000 feet above sea level in Mayrhofen, Austria. Besides an obvious soul attack, what’s the final result?
The annual event takes life to its peak – literally. Attendees spend five whole days nestled within the crisp, snowcapped Alps, embarking on daytime skiing and nocturnal raging. As Dizzee Rascal simply put it, “It’s like Ibiza in the snow.”
To take a panoramic of Snowbombing would be to cast the North Pole in some next-level merrymaking. Santa might be missing in action, but festival-goers have Fatboy Slim and Groove Armada on their wish list. Even better, accommodations for the festival include a four-star spa hotel, ski lessons and equipment upon request.
So, how does one find this arctic haven?
Well, if you’re in search of the most festive means of transportation, Snowbombing holds an annual two-day road trip that leads all the way to the indisputable party capital of the Alps. A ferry trip plus an overnight stop in Frankfurt might just be your perfect introduction to the crowd. That, or the fact that you’ll be driving alongside celebrity guests.
Once you arrive, a dream awaits you. As with any music festival, radical venues are a prerequisite. Snowbombing boasts a wide range of locations – be it the Eristoff Forest or ‘Arctic Disco’ igloo made entirely out of snow. There’s even the Schlussel, a so-called party sauna that houses partiers with a Lumberjack-esque cabin feel.
It comes as no surprise that Snowbombing was voted Best Overseas Festival in 2010. This year Snowbombing kicks off April 9 and wraps up April 14, reserving the last day for the grandest parties spread out among three venues. Just envisioning the prospect gives us beautiful chills.
So go to Snowbombing and embrace the cold – we know you can bring the heat.
